The heavy door creaked as I crept through
And I hoped for what I would see
But my fool's faith was deftly shattered
In the dull light of that familiar room
I tried to preserve whatever pride you left me
The path that one such as I must follow
So I stood eye to eye with him as equal
Even as I felt my chest cave in
But I stood in the candlelight with no fear
For I have been tested by greater trials
And even though I leveled the odds
I was the only one to walk away
The force of his life now wanes like the moon
And I had anticipated this fever to flee
But the ache in my chest now spreads to my bones
And grips my spirit in its vice
The first golden rays of morning now creep in
And illuminate the dust that falls upon his face
But his ashen lips of grey taunt me where he lies
In a smile that still holds your lingering touch
As I look away you know what I must ask
And my throat tries to close around the question
But even though he may be departed
You still with all conviction commit yourself
I would offer reprieve if you were by my side
But you pray still only for the fallen
The unbearable light of your love burns my eyes
So I extinguish it swiftly
I have no regrets, so send out the hounds
I faced him as equal, so raise up the gallows
I offered her forgiveness, so bring the hood for my head
I ask only that we are committed to the earth apart
I wonder how he likes his earthen bed
And how the worms like his feet?
Better still he'll like my lady gay
Who lies in unshakeable sleep

The years become decades
And still the shadow remains
Between these silent walls
Observed from afar
In constant unswerving perception
We somehow remain unperceived
Withering in the failing light
Of our distant dying star
So many more lie in wait
To take it's place
Eager to brighten
These darkening skies
In constant unswerving perception
We somehow remain unperceived
Withering in the failing light
Of our distant dying star
So keep an ear to the ground
Remain in vigilance
For the beating of wings
That turns to the buzzing
Of flies
In constant unswerving perception
We somehow remain unperceived
Withering in the failing light
Of our distant dying star

The glass links in the chain
Wrapped around your throat
Will tighten but never shatter
And you will remain
Lost in this fog
Never looking for a way out
Its will is a millstone
Borne with the pride
Of the cattle
with the butcher's patronage
Of the flock
with the wolfpack's esteem
It's weight pulls on each
Corner of your frame
And shreds your consciousness
By a process
So subtle
It goes unnoticed until it is complete
Its will is a millstone
Borne with the pride
Of the stag
Who dances to the bow's rhythm
Of the candle
Who sways to the snuffer's lullaby
To rot alive is slow
When the taint
Is but a drop of poison each day
And these flecks have fallen
In your reservoir
For winters and summers without measure
Its will is this extinction
Borne with such pride

For the symptoms of confusion
You prescribe an empty soul
And a blind march forward
With nowhere else to go
And for those who would seek love
You offer no open arms
Only tears and screams that echo
Through the minds of those you've harmed
For yours is the kingdom of rupture
Yours is the empire of fear
Yours is the land where we must deny
All that we hold dear
And you say our hearts are weak
But in our chest they glow like stars
And this radiance will be the proof
To the world just how wrong you are
Conditioned by the fear you spread
Backs are turned to the truth
We scream at their spines till our throats are hoarse
But it seems to be of no use
And so your rabid plague spreads
With a corrupting whisper at each door:
"Sever the ancient and glorious ties
And trust in these bonds no more"
For yours is the kingdom of rupture
Yours is the empire of fear
Yours is the land where we must deny
All that we hold dear
And you say our hearts are weak
But in our chest they glow like stars
And this radiance will be the proof
To the world just how wrong you are

Deadbolt

They threw open every door
To let the sun's rays warm their face
But this was never enough for them
So new apertures were broken open
And if you follow the same path as them
This is where it will end
In this way new windows were fashioned
To let the light through every crack
And they found so much more
So much more than they bargained for
And if you follow the same path as them
This is where it will end
And if you follow that same fateful road my friend
Well this is where it will end
Their sun has gone down in the West
Fog has rolled out as dusk took hold
But their world has halted upon it's axis
And that night now knows no end
I have seen their many windows today
Crudely boarded up with wood
And I have seen their many doors today
Deadbolted and nailed to their frames
And if you follow the same path as them
This is where it will end
And if you follow that same fateful road my friend
Well this i where it will end
Your sun will go down in the West
Fog will roll out as dusk takes hold
But your world will halt upon it's axis
And your night will know no end
